Jahvid Best is the Heisman front-runner

(8)California 35 - Minnesota 21 : California continues its string of solid victories by notching their most impressive one yet. In their first true test of the season the Golden Bears passed with flying colors. On the legs of Jahvid Best and the new found consistency of Kevin Riley, Cal has really got thing moving in the right direction at the right time.

I've got Jahvid Best as my Heisman front-runner thus far after rushing for 131 yards and 5 TDs (yes, all 5) Saturday. Cal did a good job of moving the ball and Kevin Riley has minimized the mistakes that plagued him last season. If they can keep this up, they can capitalize on USC, Oregon, and Oregon St.'s early season misfortune. Could this be the year Jeff Tedford gets past USC for a Pac 10 Championship? They have to get by Oregon first this weekend at The Zoo. But all in all, this team bears watching.

As for the Gophers, I like the direction this team is heading. They're just not there yet. They stayed in this one giving Cal everything they had for 3+ quarters. Cal was just better. But Minnesota has to be a bit worried that the running game is still this bad. The days of Lawrence Maroney and Marion Barber seem like such a long time ago.
